【摘要】Cultural Discourse Studies(CDS) is an emerging paradigm of discourse and communication studies that is characterized by a profound concern with human cultural diversity,division,and development.This new movement manifests itself in the form of(a)participation of culturally diverse scholars from especially the(under)developing world,(b) general orientation towards decolonizing human discourses,and(c) development of culturally conscious and critical,locally grounded and globally minded,approaches to discourse and communication.Perturbed by globalism in society and ethnocentrism in scholarship on the one hand,but inspired by non-Western needs,experiences and scholarships on the other hand,this multicultural paradigm proceeds from the basic assumption that contemporary human discourse/communication is a site of cultural contestation,cooperation,and transformation and strives as its mission(a) to deconstruct ethnocentrism in discourse/communication research,(b) to develop and practice cultural frameworks for the study of diverse human discourses,especially those of the emerging world,and(c) to foster intercultural-intellectual dialogue and debate,all with a view to enhancing human cultural coexistence,harmony and prosperity.Significant achievements have been made at the philosophical,theoretical,methodological and topical levels.
